Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between MooTunes and other website builders?

MooTunes is 100% focussed on musicians. We seperate ourselves is by understanding what musicians need from a website. We make it easy for you to add your content and sell your music, without having to dig through menus and complicated set up. Our documentation and tutorials are targeted at your needs, and are constantly working to add more features that are specifically for musicians.

MooTunes doesn’t even have its own page builder! We use WordPress, Woocommerce, and the Divi theme, one of the most popular off-the-shelf combinations for making e-commerce websites. But we’ve simplified the options and streamlined the process to make it easier for you to get their website up and running.

MooTunes is also free. As far as we’re aware we are the only service allowing you to both sell music and build a website for free.

My music is on streaming services - why should I sell it online as well?

There’s a reason most big artists have digital download options on their websites. Believe it or not, some people still want to own their music! Do you really want those people to miss out on your awesome tunes?

On top of that, it’s also a good financial decision. According to soundcharts.com, Spotify paid out around $0.0033 USD ($0.0045 AUD) per stream in 2020. A fan would have to listen to your single 340 times to earn you the same amount of money as a $1.69 sale.

It's free - what's the catch?

There is none. At least if you get in soon enough.

You see, our business plan relies on a percentage takings from sales. This will be at 10%. But we also understand that word won’t spread unless people get on board, so as a launch special, new websites will keep 100% of sales on digital music forever.

We’re also developing a couple of other awesome features, that will both help musicians and make MooTunes money. But all the features currently available will always be free.

Why can I only use the Divi Builder on my Home page?

The Divi Theme is incredible flexible. This is great as it gives you the flexibility to create a website that matches your brand.

That said, our business model relies on musicians using the platform. We don’t want plumbers, or restaurants, or schools taking up resources on our servers.

With the popularity of one-page designs with musicians, we thought the Divi Builder on the Home Page only would be the best of both worlds. If you want to use the Divi Builder more on your website, think about incorportaing your content as Sections on the Home Page rather than as individual pages.

Alternatively, we do have a paid option that allows the Divi Builder everywhere.

What formats are digital downloads in?

MP3s are stereo at 320kbps.

AACs are stereo at 256kbps.

FLACs are exactly the same quality as your uploaded WAV files.

Can I sell physical merchandise on my Mootunes site?

Not exactly… We’re working on it.

For now, you could create an External Product that links to an external website like Bandcamp.

Can I sell digital copies of my album at shows, or include them with physical versions of the album?
